   DALTON January 15, 1857 in Grainger Co. Tn., daughter of CARTER DALTON
   and MARY COFFEY.
**Notes on  Perlina: said to be a "granny woman/medicine woman"

Notes for JAMES MADISON SINGLETON:
James Madison Singleton went to serve in the Civil War and never came back. He deserted from a hospital in Georgia, and did nor return home. No one ever heard from him again.

Notes for PERLINA (PAULINA) DALTON:
As told by Flora Farmer , a long time friend of the family:
Perlina was a Dalton before she married James Madison Singleton and she had 3 or 4 children by James Madison before he volunteered and joined the Army in the Civil War. He never came home, and nobody ever knew what happened to him. But records say he was in a hospital in Georgia during the war, run off and deserted and was never heard  from again. He was only 24 years old then according to the papers. As time went on and he never did come back, Perlina went ahead and married his cousin
Jerry Singleton (the Reverend Jeremiah Singleton) and had some children by him.

J. Parrott Singleton  ("Deviner" ) is buried in the Singleton Cemetery located near Thorn Hill Tennessee.  HIghway 131 east at Thorn Hill. Go approx. 3 miles to the Cedar Springs Church, turn left. second road to the right. Cemetery is approx. one mile on the left.

On page 14, " Grainger Co., Tennessee, Cemetery Records, North Side of Clinch Mountain", Volume 1, we listed the Fields Cemetery. We have since learned that this is not the Fields Cemetery but the Hipsher Cemetery with many of the older members of the Hipsher family being buried here.
